Housing Services

On-campus housing is full at this time.  We have started a waiting list and will fill any spaces created by cancellations in the order that we place people on the waiting list.  Students wishing to be on the waiting list for on-campus housing must send us a completed contract with their $350.00 security deposit.  The contract is available here. Checks will not be cashed until a space is available and deposits will be returned if no space becomes available.

If students are looking for housing at this time, they may also inquire about off-campus housing.  Off-campus housing contact information is available on the college website at http://www.herkimer.edu/studentservices/housing/offcampus/

Housing Brochure Cover

The Student Housing Office serves as a referral service to help students locate appropriate housing, often within walking distance of the campus. Although the College will assist the student in finding housing, it is the student's responsibility to secure housing. The College regularly publishes a housing list with periodic updates of the current housing options and price ranges. The new international house, adjacent to the campus, serves both American and international students.

Campus Meadows, College Hill apartments and Reservoir Run are owned and operated by the HCC Foundation. These facilities have Resident Assistants and offer high speed internet access and other amenities. All other housing facilities are privately owned and operated and do not have any affiliation with the College, the College does not inspect, approve or recommend housing accommodations. HCCC is not responsible for the establishment of rental costs, nor will it serve as the arbiter of disputes between landlord and student tenant. Students who receive federal financial aid may arrange with the College to make rental payments directly to the landlord out of their financial aid award funds.

Housing Guide

Apartments & Houses

Furnished and unfurnished facilities are available. Most students prefer furnished units for convenience. Utilities (heat, electricity, water) are generally included in the rent. However, some landlords prefer the tenant to pay utilities separately. Apartments and houses are slightly more expensive than other types of housing, but they may offer the student more individual living convenience.

Dormitory Style Housing

The dormitory style housing in the area accommodates ten or more students. Rooms are generally shared with another student, although single rooms are also available at a higher rate. Bathrooms, lounge, and cooking areas are generally shared. Dormitory rooms can be a thrifty form of student housing.

Sleeping Rooms

Sleeping rooms for one or two students can be found in private homes. Students generally share bath and kitchen facilities. Sleeping rooms tend to be the least costly form of student housing.

Cooking Facilities and College Meal Plans

A healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner menu is available Monday through Friday at reasonable prices in the College dining area in the student center building on campus. Meal plans are available. Most student housing accommodations have cooking facilities. Students who choose accommodations without cooking facilities must make their own arrangements for weekend meals.

Tips for Selecting Student Housing

  • Be sure to personally inspect any housing facility you are considering. Do not rent from a written description. It is best to check at least two facilities so you can make comparisons.
  • Ask for a copy of the lease agreement and information about security deposits and other charges. Carefully review the lease for any restrictions or regulations pertaining to the use of the dwelling before you sign the lease and pay a deposit.
  • Ask the landlord who is responsible for paying utility costs.
  • Be sure to get receipts for all payments, including deposits, whether you pay by cash or check.
  • Be sure the agreement reached is strictly between the landlord and the tenant. It is wise to select your housing arrangements carefully.

Although ample student housing is available, it is important to make housing arrangements in the spring or early summer in preparation for the fall semester.

The HCCC housing office schedules tours of off-campus housing during Open House and Registration Days held on campus. All students who apply to HCCC receive an invitation to these functions, which are held throughout the year.
